Oakleaf Papaya (Organic)
$15.00
Vasconcellea quercifolia
Oakleaf Papaya is a small, deciduous, fast growing tree reaching 10-15 ft in height. It is one of the most cold hardy and drought tolerant papayas we grow and it has a very similar flavor to a tropical papaya. The fruit ripens in early winter. The fruit are small, about the size of a cheetoh and can be eaten skin and all.A mature tree can produce many hundreds of fruits in a season.
The plants are either male or female, and each container contains 2 papayas. We suggest purchasing at least 2 pots (to get 4 plants going), in the hopes of having both a male and female. A great food forest addition and very resilient.
USDA Hardiness: Potentially 9a, for sure 9b-11(Can take temperatures as low as 20*F, but cant take wet feet)
Pot Size: 4×6
Plant size: 2-3 plants per pot 6inches+, well established root system (seed grown)
