KSU – Benson™ Pawpaw (conventional)

$30.00

Medium to large sized fruit that are kidney-shaped with yellow flesh. Plant two varieties or a combination of seedlings and varieties for cross-pollination. Bearing Age: 2-3 years after planting. Selected at Kentucky State University from the Pawpaw Breeding program for its heavily productive and early ripening fruit, the KSU Benson ™ Pawpaw was named in honor of Dr. Harold R. Benson. The Pawpaw is the largest edible fruit native to America, with edible fruit that tastes like banana-mango. The custard-like pulp has big seeds that are easy to spoon out. Nutritious as well as delicious, the greenish yellow, long fruit is unusually high in protein and is a good source of vitamins and minerals. The KSU-Benson ™ fruit is plump and rounder than other pawpaw varieties. A slow-growing, small, understory tree, Pawpaw is naturally disease and pest resistant and features long, tropical-looking foliage that turns bright yellow in the fall. For proper pollination, plant another pawpaw variety nearby.
