Native to the forests of northern China and the Russian Far East, this very hardy vine is valued for its medicinal qualities and its attractive flowers, foliage, and striking, crimson berries which have a tart and very lemon-like taste and aroma. Very popular in Chinese medicine, all parts of the plant is used for treating various illnesses. One plant can bear up to 20 lbs. of fruit, which makes tasty and nutritious juice. Schisandra Vine likes some shade and is happy growing on a fence, wall, or arbor. Shisandra Vine is hardy to minus 40°F.

A selection of Magnolia Vine from the Vavilov Institute at Vladivostok, Russia, Eastern Prince™ bears good crops of large, tasty fruit. Eastern Prince™ Schisandra Vine is hardy to minus 35 degrees F., USDA Zone 3. This particular variety bears clusters of lightly fragrant, magnolia-like flowers. The snow-white flowers are followed by striking, crimson berries which have a tart and very distinctive taste and aroma. The fruit makes tasty, vitamin-rich juice and preserves, and the dried leaves, shoots, and roots are used to make a refreshing and stimulating tea.
