Happy holidays from all of us at Planting Justice!
Below are some highlights of our season’s work as we continue
to grow food, jobs & community here in the Bay Area.

PJ STAFF GARDEN BUILD Planting Justice built a beautiful community garden at the City of Refuge United Church of Christ, building in solidarity with Dr. Vandana Shiva’s call to action for seed freedom on October 12, 2013. Grassroots organizers, landscapers and educators joined forces to install five raised beds and an herb spiral. Check out the video below:

SALVADOR & KEVIN INTERVIEWED ON KPFA! Sally Phillips recently interviewed two awesome members of the Transform Your Yard team – permaculture designer Salvador Mateo & designer-in-training Kevin Williams. We are so proud of both these men, not only for their powerful presence on this segment, but for bringing their leadership, inspiration and dedication to work each and every day. Their interview is heartfelt and touching. Listen to it here, and spread the word!

PJ STAFF WRITES OUR OWN TEN POINT PROGRAM Educators Haleh Zandi and Julio Madrigal led the Planting Justice staff in group exercise to draft our own 10 Point Program based on the Black Panthers 10 Point Program created by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966. Planting Justice educators asked everyone to write three declarations of “what we demand in our work for Food Justice”. Click here to read what we came up with!

HELP SHARE THE HARVEST! We still have quite a ways to go on our holiday “Share the Harvest” campaign to raise $15,000 through peer-to-peer fundraising. Donate, spread the word, or sign up for your own fundraising page before the year’s end to support the important work we do here at Planting Justice.
