Hops
Attractive fast growing lush dark green perennial vines are great for creating quick shade or covering a wall or fence. As with other perennial vines they die back to the ground in winter and then send new shoots from the ground that can grow up to 25 feet in one season. Their fragrant flowers are harvested in late summer and used to make beer and other herbal products. New shoots are edible in the spring, cooked or in salads. Two types of Hops are grown. Aroma types are used for conditioning and finishing bear, while the Bittering Hops are used to add bitterness. Plants do not need pollination. Zones 5-9.
