Its fruits are similar to Passiflora edulis and are considered a replacement for it in northern areas. Also relished by many types of wildlife and the larvae of several butterfly species. The whole plant is said to be useful as a relaxant and sleep enhancer in herbal medicine. Hardy zones 5 to 9.
