Wonderful Northwest native raspberry specie growing from coastal Central Alaska down into California. Showy deep rose-pink flowers in the spring are followed by bright yellow to orange-red large raspberry like fruit that is pleasant to eat with a sweet-tart woodsy flavor. A traditional staple of native peoples they are also good made into jams, jellies and wine. Strong plants grow 3 to 10 feet tall and have perennial canes unlike othe raspberry species that have biennial canes. Often grown as an ornamental in the Northwest and western Europe for its pretty form and colorful flowers. Likes a cool moist climate and is hardy zones 4-9.
