National tree of England. Very important ecologically for it’s abundant acorn crop and the many other life forms it supports. Tree is very fast growing and upright and can grow 75 to over 100 feet tall. It produces a highly coveted wood used for many purposes, but is also long lived, several specimens in Europe are known to be over 1,000 years old. Has been planted in parks and gardens in many places all over the world. This is the upright form, which in our plantings has kept pace with a fast growing coast redwood in its first 12 years of growth, now over 35 feet tall.
