Ecuadorian Orange Blush Tamarillo (Organic)

$15.00

Solanum betaceum var Ecuadorian Orange

Fruit  is medium orange in color with a redish orange hue skin color.  The fruit can range from large egg size to a duck egg size.  Pulp is light orange, very creamy in texture.  Much  less acidic  than the more common and darker Ruby Red. Excellent for eating out of hand and also suited for culinary use.  We come away with a very creamy almost custard like Tamarillo.

Native to the Andes of South America, this subtropical, juicy, sweet-tart fruit, with flavor notes of tomato and passionfruit, can be eaten fresh, used in desserts, drinks, smoothies, salads, soups, sauces, and more. It is an excellent source of vitamins A, B, C, E, & Iron, and ripens late in the year, when many other fruits are not available. The small tree grows well in containers, and prefers protection from strong wind and freezing temperatures. Hardy to USDA zone 9b. Aka Tamarillo & Tomate de Arbol.
